Three-Year-Old Kinder FAQs

Funded Three-Year-Old Kindergarten

The Victorian Government recently announced the Funded Three-Year-Old Kindergarten initiative. The Funded Three-Year-Old Kindergarten program will allow kindergartens and long day care centres offering a three-year-old kinder program to access 5 hours of a funded kindergarten program each week. In future years, the number of funded kindergarten hours are scheduled to increase.

Funded Three-Year-Old Kindergarten is being rolled-out across the state in stages, with some regional Victorian kindergartens receiving the funding in 2021, followed by the rest of the state in 2022.

The Benefits of Three-Year-Old Kindergarten

Three-Year-Old kindergarten funding has been introduced to reflect evidence that shows:

  • Play-based learning, offered within a kindergarten environment, is a powerful way to support children’s development;
  • Two years are better than one when it comes to formal early learning; and
  • A quality kindergarten program will have more of an impact for children who start at age 3, rather than 4.

Three-Year-Old Kindergarten at Explorers Early Learning

At Explorers Early Learning, we offer a full day of education and care for our three-year-old children, where our qualified teacher-led kindergarten program is integrated with additional hours of education and care.

Commencing in 2022, we are pleased to announce that Explorers will introduce the Funded Three-Year-Old Kindergarten initiative at our Centres. This means that families with a child enrolled in our three-year-old kindergarten program will benefit from a dedicated kinder educator. The funding will be paid directly to Explorers to employ the educator for the 3 year-old Kinder children.
