As part of the Explorers philosophy, each centre fundraises for a charity selected by the Explorers community.
Fundraising is an important part of our philosophy and culture at Explorers. Whilst helping an important cause is the obvious major benefit of fundraising, there are also many other benefits.
Additional fundraising benefits:
- Children learn to appreciate what they have and understand that they have the ability to help others.
- Gives families and the Explorers team a sense of community.
- Provides an opportunity for children to work together toward a group goal.
- Encourages conversations about the world and society that a child isn’t normally exposed to.
Safe Water for Every Child – Explorers SkyHydrant Fundraising Project
Millions of people around the world still do not have access to safe drinking water. 4,500 children die every day from the consequences of unsafe drinking water and inadequate hygiene. At any given time almost half the people in the developing world suffer from one or more water borne preventable diseases. (Information taken from www.skyjuice.com.au).
For $5,000, a SkyHydrant water purification unit can produce safe drinking water for 500-1000 people, without the need for power or chemicals. The unit can produce clean drinking water from the majority of non-saline and ground water, costing only $1 per person for a year.
How much have we raised so far?
We are proud to announce we have raised $5,000 from Explorers family donations! We have recently sent a donation of $10,000 (with an additional $5,000 contribution from Explorers Early Learning) to Disaster Aid International. With this money we are able to fund the implementation of 2 SkyHydrant water purification units, thus helping a village (or villages), get access to safe drinking water. We will continue to raise money for this cause so keep a look out for new fundraising initiatives!
How can you support our SkyHydrant project?
- Donation Box
For families attending Explorers now, there’s a donation box located in your centre. Ask your child to drop a coin in when they attend. It can be a silver coin, a gold coin, or even a note. And talk to your child about why they are giving this money.
- Attend or be involved in Fundraising Events and Initiatives
We continue to come up with new methods to raise funds for this special charity. Keep a look out on our social media for our next fundraising event!
Other Fundraising Initiatives
In addition to the SkyHydrant Fundraising project, centres choose a specific charity which may mean something special to them. For example:
- Explorers Maidstone fundraise for Down Syndrome Australia.
