Explorers Early Learning is coming to Mornington. We are excited to be joining the community in 2022 and cannot wait to welcome all our new families and Little Explorers.
Let us introduce our new Centre Director, Pauline Smales.
What are your thoughts on joining the Explorers Community?
I am excited to be part of the Explorers Early Learning team, and I am particularly looking forward to being a part of the opening of the Mornington Centre.
Are you local to the Mornington Community?
In January 2020, my husband, Darren and I moved back to Mornington with our daughter Caeleigh and dog, Dusty. We have been enjoying exploring the stunning walks along the beach, as well as the many parks. There are so many natural spaces to explore in and around Mornington.
An interesting fact…
As a teenager, I lived about 500m from the Mornington Explorers site, in fact, the bus stop in front of the centre is where I waited for my bus for school. I am very familiar with Mornington and surrounding communities and have many fond memories from growing up on the peninsula.
How long have you been in Early Education?
I have been working in the Early Education field for 35 years, in a range of settings Local Government, community based, and for profit in environments such as Family Day Care, Early Childhood Centres both on the floor with children as well as in leadership positions. I have also worked in Training and Assessment, Training Early Childhood Education and Care for Certificate 3, Diploma and Advanced Diploma Students.
My Daughter Caeleigh spent her first five years being cared for and educated in early childcare, this has meant that I gained a greater understanding from a parents’ perspective. Our experience as a family was very positive and we still enjoy catching up with Caeleigh’s Educators from time to time.
What are you looking forward to working at Explorers Mornington?
I am looking forward to working in an environment where the Reggio Emilia approach is evident in every aspect of the centre, from the initial design of the indoor and outdoor spaces, but also in the way in which the environment is set up to the practices the educators demonstrate every day. I have a particular believe that children are capable and competent, and therefore I like to ensure opportunities for children to participate in all aspects of their day, including routines, to make choices, to be encouraged and to develop positive self-esteem and confidence.
What would you like to say to the future families of Explorers Mornington?
I cannot wait for the Mornington team to grow and for us to start getting to know our new families and together building a positive, professional, and fun community at Mornington Explorers.
